EXHIBITION|DISCUSSIONS| WORKSHOPS| WOODCUT CONTEST The 1ST JOGJA MINIPRINT BIENNALE (JMB) 2014 Secretariat: SOMODARAN GP III/51, RT.02, RW.10, BANYURADEN, YOGYAKARTA 55293, INDONESIA. Email: [email protected], [email protected] Web: http://www.jogjaminiprints.com/ mobile: +62 81328672943, +62 81539816190 Location: Bank Indonesia Museum, Yogyakarta , Indonesia. Dates: 6-30 June 2014 The Jogja Miniprint Biennale (JMB 2014) is an every two years miniprint exhibition and competition for Indonesian and international artists. It follows the Jogja International Mini Print Festival (JIMPF) 2013, which took place from 15- 30 November 2013 and was designed as a ‘warm up’ event prior to JMB 2014. More than 460 works by 170 artists/ printmakers from Indonesia and abroad were exhibited at JIMPF. Thirty four artists from seven countries including Australia, the United States, Italy, Switzerland, Montenegro, Malaysia, and the Philippines participated as well as 134 Indonesian artists from Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Bandung, Tangerang, Tasikmalaya, Banten, Magelang, Solo, Surabaya and Makassar. Related events which took place included presentations by two guest speakers, three academic papers, three technical demonstrations, two performances, two art experiments and four workshops conducted by studios and the graphic arts/printmaking community in Yogyakarta. JMPF 2013 was well received and well covered in the local and national press including Koran Jogja, Koran Tempo, Detik.com, and Jogja News as well as a number of internet/online news portals. Development of an international biennale grew out the perceived need of art activists and artists to adapt to the realities of today’s art world. Thus the 1st Yogyakarta Miniprint Biennale (JMB) will be held from 6 -30 June 2014. The works of participating artists will be exhibited in the Museum of Bank Indonesia, Yogyakarta. In addition to the main exhibition, the Biennale/JMB will feature a number of other programs including discussion forums, guest speakers, technical workshops and performance art and entertainment events including a woodcut contest, a venue for printmakers working in the medium of woodcuts to display their abilities in front of an audience. The initial activity of the Biennale will be a poster contest for artists, designers, and the general public – as a different kind of introduction to the Biennale Prints exhibited at JMB 2014 will be selected by a jury of consisting of a master printer, an eminent curator, and a senior artist (see bio sketches at Terms and Conditions page) from works submitted by artists/printmakers from throughout the world. It is hoped that the Biennale will open an alternative space for artists, observers, and art/printmaking lovers, particularly in Jogjakarta, to share experiences and expand printmaking networks. The official opening of JMB will take place on 6 June 2014, the day before the opening of Art-Jog (7 June 2014) and close on 30 June 2014, one week after the closing of Art-Jog (22 June 2014). The timing of JMB 2014 was chosen specifically to provide artists and art lovers visiting Jogja maximum opportunity to enjoy the wide variety of high quality art events which will be taking place in June 2014. *Syahrizal Pahlevi/Coordinator Archive documentation (photos); JIMPF 15-30 November 2013 Mini Prints Exhibition, ISI Gallery Yogyakarta, 15 – 30 November 2013 Guest Speakers: Seminar room, Indonesian Institute of Art (ISI) Yogyakarta 16-17 November 2013: Lecturer and Master Printer Devy Ferdianto/Bandung and Eitaro Ogawa/Chief Printer and Program Leader Singapore Taylor Print Institute (STPI) Singapore
